Ph.D. Requirements
- Residency Requirement:
The Graduate School has a residency requirement, which is ordinarily satisfied by four semesters of full-time registration. - Required number of hours:
No specific number of hours of course work is prescribed for the Ph.D. degree. - Course Work:
Students normally complete course work with sixteen to eighteen graduate courses beyond the B.A.
-two seminars in the major
-one seminar in the minor
-one additional seminar in any area - Dissertation Credit (ENGL 994)
- Proficiency in two foreign languages (see page 3 of the Guide to Graduate Studies in English on ways to satisfy this requirement). One of which satisfied the foreign language requirement for the M.A.
- Written exam in the major and minor
- Oral exam in the major and minr
- Prospectus
- Successful defense of the dissertation
